Home Again

We arrived home in the early afternoon on May 31st. (Bonnies Birthday).

We left Lorna and Chris' house early Monday morning.
We had a wonderful time during our visit, despite the lousy weather. Lorna, Chris and their daughter Christina made the trip very interesting going to Halls Harbour and the wine tour.
We also saw their son Kevin as he flew in from Manitoba to be home for a week.
On an upscale note, the boys finally won the night of Euchre after loosing the previous 2 nights.

We decided to go home through the states so we crossed at Woodstock New Brunswick into Maine.
From there it was an easy drive on freeways with speeds up to 75 mph.
Only problem was the tolls seemed to crop up every few minutes.
Back to Canada at Niagara Falls and Timmies coffee.
We went 3,915 kilometres in the mini and NEVER had the top down. Bloody weather.

Our next blog will be our trip to Manitoba with Sue and Bob to see Marcella and Wayne.
We leave on June 19th. Hoping for better weather for that trip.

A trip to Halls Harbour

The weather continues to be overcast and cool, but the rain has subsided, so we reckoned a trip to Halls Harbour was in order.

The only problem was it was also the apple blossom day parade in Kentville. It is normally a 45 minute drive from Windsor to Halls Harbour. We encountered "the parade".
Apparently everyone for 50 miles, except us, was going to the parade. We ran into road closure after road closure and 2 hours later, ended up at Halls Harbour.

Pictures below are the ocean side of Halls Harbour.

Boats are on the leeward side. The tide was in and the boats were floating. At low tide, (41 ft lower) the boats are grounded.

We headed for the restaurant and the gift shop. Chris and I, although starving, waited for an eon for the girls to check out the gift shop. Finally lunch. Lobster roll for Lorna and Fish and Chips for the rest of us.

We found a friend in the restaurant for Bonnie and Lorna to bond with, even though Bonnie does not like lobster.

I figured another photo of the boats in the harbour was in order.

And of course a photo your fearless travellers on a cool and overcast day. But no rain.

Tomorrow promises some sun. We will see.

At Lorna and Chris'

The weather has been lousy since we arrived in Windsor. It was a slightly worse than the weather that we experienced on the way here.
The good thing is that we are now with our friends, Lorna and Chris and despite the rotten weather, we are having a good time.
Played Euchre and the girls won most of the games, but Chris and I won the last game and declared ourselves champs.

For dinner we thought we would go to a restaurant called the Naked Crepe.
Chris ordered a Royal Crepe. Lorna, a Fruit Crepe, Joe, a Cordon Blue Crepe and Bonnie ordered a PIZZA. A Pizza at a crepe restaurant. Oh well, to each his own.

Today, Friday, even though the weather was still raining all day, we decided on a wine tour.
Christina Jones (Lorna and Chris' daughter) was our tour guide, Chris was our chauffeur and we were off.

As you can see, the weather was not improving.

The girls were dressed for the weather.

We are in our first winery and glad to be out of the rain.
Bonnie and Christina with our hostess as we start the wine sampling.

Not sure who these people are but they took up the whole bar area as we tried to make our way to the wine samples. As "The Donald" would say "Get them outa here"

These are kegs of wine at Foxhill. Bonnie is making sure nobody gets in to steal them before we get our samples.

Foxhill Winery .

Moving on to Lockets winery

Lots of bottles to choose from.

The winery has a red english phone that has free long distance calls.

Bonnie called Laurie.

Headed back to Lorna and Chris' to watch the Blue Jay game
See y'all tomorrow.

Made it to Windsor, Nova Scotia

I looked out the hotel window around 7:30 this morning and saw such a phenomenon that I didn't know what to make of it. I called Bonnie to look and she said "Don't be so dumb, that is the sun"
Well, in my defence, I had not seen it in days. It only lasted about an hour.

So it's another overcast day with little or no sunshine.

We left Moncton and crossed the Bay of Fundy to Truro, Nova Scotia.
We had temperatures ranging from 10C to 18C and overcast and even some fog.

We arrived in Windsor in the early afternoon.
So good to see our good friends, Lorna and Chris again.

More to come.

From Riviere du Loup to Moncton

We were up early (7:30 AM) and went down for a very good continental breakfast at the Quality Inn.

Once again, the weather was cool and overcast, but your fearless adventurers headed out anyway.

This picture is Riviere du Loup as we left. It was such an overcast day that it is difficult to see the St Lawrence River in the background.

We headed out of Quebec to New Brunswick. We passed Edmundson and continued on the road to Fredericton.
The traffic on the Trans Canada was horrific. It was almost "total gridlock" all the way.
You can see what I mean in the picture below.

We checked into a Quality Inn once again as the Holiday Inn was sold to the Days Inn.
That was too much "Inn the know" for us.
This is our room.

Next door to the Quality Inn was the New Brunswick Casino. Time for dinner and maybe gamble a few bucks.

Bonnie invested a King's Ransom in the penny slot machine and after multitudinous spins, cashed out.
Her cashout voucher is pictured below. Don't know what we will do with the winnings.

Tomorrow we are off to Windsor to see our good friends, Lorna and Chris.
Hopefully we will see the sun for a change.

Off to Nova Scotia

We leave early Monday morning for our trip to Nova Scotia to visit our friends Lorna and Chris Jones.

We are "on the go"

This is our ride for the trip. As you can see we also have our hats for the trip.

Up at the crack of dawn to start our "road trip".
I had washed , waxed, armouralled ?sp, cleaned the rims, windexed the windows and cleaned the leather seats. All was ready.
The "baby" was parked in the garage for 3 days to keep it clean.
Monday was supposed to be a nice day. Well, driving through Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Whitby and Oshawa in a mist and rain, with multitudinous large trucks, the baby's image was "down the drain". What a mess.

It rained most of the day and we never saw the sun.
We ended up in Riviera du Loup at the Quality Inn for the night.
Dinner at St Hubert's (large poutine for Bonnie and garden salad for Joe) (yeah, right) and we are calling it a night.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring some warmer weather and some SUN for good pictures.
