Tour of Budapest

We were up early this morning for a wonderful breakfast that include blueberry pancakes, eggs or omelettes made by Chef Krum and of course champagne.
Good way to start the day.

At 8:30 we were off on a bus and walking tour of Budapest. We toured around Pest first and ended at the Budapest Heroes Square. The picture below is at the Heroes Square. The people in the picture are heroes in their own mind only. The real heroes are in the statues in the distance.

We then headed for Buda, which is across the chain bridge (one of the 11 bridges that connect Buda and Pest). Buda is much hillier than Pest, so we went up the mountain (hill?), to check out the Royal Castle, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion.
The first picture below is of the Matthias Church and the other 2 are a view across the Danube of Pest from the Fisherman's Bastion.

Lunch was excellent featuring Hungarian Goulash and Banana cake with rum sauce and of course beer for the boys and wine for the ladies. Our bartender Melvee is really looking after us!!!
Time to relax this afternoon, explore the ship (not a boat) to be ready for the Welcome Gala Dinner and prepare to set sail for Bratislava in Slovakia.

Just to correct an earlier mistake, our night at the Budapest Marriott was in Pest not Buda. We learned that on our own, as Andy has been of no help, nor has he advised us of a Hungarian beer. We have had to drink German beer so far.

The evening was terrific.  We headed to the lounge for a pre dinner cocktail. We ended up meeting some folks from New Zealand and also from Alberta.

The photo below is us and our new friends, Robyn, Sonja, June and John who we also had dinner with.

Sonja ordered a dessert and told them there was no whipped cream on the dessert and they brought more cream.
They brought more cream!!

The ship (not a boat) left Budapest at 7;00 PM. We are heading for Bratislava, Slovakia.

On the way, we head to the lounge for entertainment and dancing.
Our entertainer is Stefan and he plays the piano, the harmonica, the squeeze box and the saxophone.
Music, dancing and a couple of libations make for a great night.
John, from New Zealand, got up and sang a couple of songs as Stefan accompanied him on the piano.

I guess its time for bed. Tomorrow we will travel to Bratislava, Slovakia and arrive around noon.
See y'all then.

  2. This is my 3rd attempt so my apologies if this is posted 3 times. I just wanted to say to Mom that the Mother river in the plains of passage is the Danube. Ayla and jondalar follow the Danube from just south of Budapest the way you are going. When you get to Regensburg Germany they took the south fork towards France and you will take the north
