Vienna - Home of Classical Music

We arrived in Vienna early this morning. The picture is the skyline of the modern part of Vienna.
As you can see we were greeted by some of the locals when we arrived.

After a breakfast of champagne and eggs benedict, we headed to the bus for our city tour of Vienna.
The city tour is partly on the bus and partly walking around the downtown area.
The downtown of Vienna is very picturesque and also quite clean.
Our guide Markus explained the difference between Austrians and Germans. Apparently Germans are too uptight and don't know how to smile. Austrians are the opposite. Of course Markus is Austrian.

On the walking part of the tour we found some of the Lipizzaner stallions. Magnificent horses who do tricks to music. (just like some of the women in a line dance)

We carried on through the streets at a slow pace (just right for us older folk) for a couple of hours with a 45 minute free time.
The street view and the plaza are examples of how that part of Vienna looks. No cars allowed.

We checked out the awe-inspiring St Stephen's Cathedral. They are working to repair and clean the facade. Markus tells he has lived in Vienna all his life and has never seen the cathedral without scaffolding.

Time to head back to the ship for a Wiener Schnitzel lunch and a well deserved rest as we are heading back to downtown Vienna for a Royal Classic Concert tonight.

Just back from the Classic Concert. Incredible music by 8 musicians, 2 dancers and 2 singers.
Of the 89 people on the ship, 70 went to the concert.

When we returned to the ship, they had Hungarian Goulash prepared for us. Goulash, a nightcap and its off to bed.

Tomorrow its Durnstein, The Wachau Valley and Melk.  Places you all have certainly heard of over the years I'm sure.

  1. Looks like an excellent trip...having so much fun looking at your photos...Vienna looks superb and I listened to the cd J&D brought back for me and I was transported back in time, by some of the tunes, to the German beer tents of my childhood!
